Mural tour

Philadelphia is the "Mural Capital of the World," boasting over 4,000 public artworks, largely thanks to Mural Arts Philadelphia, the nation's largest public art program. Explore Philly on foot and take in some impressive murals while you're at it!

A Guide to Historic Philadelphia

Reading Terminal Market

Address: 1136 Arch Street, Philadelphia, PA

Details: Also accessible via the entrance on 12th Street between Filbert and Arch, about a block from the Lowe’s Hotel. A lively indoor market filled with fresh produce, local vendors, and plenty of great food options. Worth at least a walk-through.


National Constitution Center

Address: 525 Arch Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106

Details: Explore the history and meaning of the U.S. Constitution through interactive exhibits and presentations.

Admission: Fee required (online tickets: $19.95 adults; $14.95 seniors, college students, and youth)


Independence Hall

Location: Chestnut Street between 5th and 6th Streets

Details: The historic site where the Declaration of Independence and Constitution were debated and adopted. Tours depart every 20 minutes.

Liberty Bell

Details: Housed in a separate structure across from Independence Hall. One of America’s most iconic symbols of freedom.

Franklin Court/Benjamin Franklin Museum

Location: Entrance on Chestnut Street between 3rd and 4th Streets

Details: Franklin Court is free to explore and includes historical exhibits tied to Benjamin Franklin’s life. The museum, accessed through the court, offers deeper insight into his legacy.

Admission: Franklin Court is free; museum admission is $5 for adults


Museum of the American Revolution

Address: 101 South 3rd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106

Details: Located at 3rd and Chestnut Streets, this museum brings the Revolutionary War era to life through immersive exhibits and artifacts.

Admission: Fee required (online tickets: $25 adults; $21 seniors and students)


Benjamin Franklin's Grave

Location: 5th and Arch Streets

Details: Franklin’s gravesite is visible from the street. It is tradition to toss a penny onto the grave for good luck. Located within Christ Church Burial Ground, where many notable Revolutionary-era figures are also buried.


Christ Church

Address: 20 N. American Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106

Details: Located on 2nd Street above Market Street, this historic Episcopal church was attended by George Washington, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and members of the Continental Congress.

Admission: $10 guided tour; $5 self-guided tour


Elfreth's Alley

Location: Entrance on N. 2nd Street between Arch and Quarry Streets

Details: Dating back to 1703, Elfreth’s Alley is the oldest continuously inhabited residential street in America. It features beautifully preserved early American homes built between 1720 and 1836. Most homes are privately owned, though #124 and #126 house the Elfreth’s Alley Museum.

Admission: Free to walk through; museum admission is $3


Betsy Ross House

Address: 239 Arch Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106

Details: Visit the home of Betsy Ross and learn about her role in American history.

Admission: $12 adult self-guided tour; $14 adult audio tour (seniors and students receive $2 off)


Franklin Institute

Address: 222 North 20th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103

Details: Located at 20th Street and Benjamin Franklin Parkway, this premier science museum and planetarium offers hands-on exhibits for all ages.

Admission: $29 adults; $25 teens


Rocky Statue & Art Museum Steps

Location: Philadelphia Museum of Art

Details: The famous statue from the Rocky films sits at the base of the museum steps. Running up the steps and raising your arms at the top is a classic Philadelphia tradition.

Details: A small but beautiful museum near the Barnes Foundation featuring an exceptional collection of works by Auguste Rodin.

Calder Gardens
